A slow-burn romance based on a novel by Gu Man (Boss & Me) about two people who have to learn to let go of the past: The male lead (played by Song Wei Long) struggles with the trauma of a car accident that ended his career as a neurosurgeon, the female lead (played by Zhao Jin Mai) needs to overcome rejection by her first love and the resulting emotional and social messiness.
This is a 36-episode healing drama with a slow progress between the main leads, but once they are together we get lots of hugs, cuddles and kisses. Varied locations (university, workplace, winter tourist spot, etc.) with a diversity of side characters keep the story engaging. The first two-thirds are great and the story moves along unhurriedly but nicely; however, the drama gets bogged down a bit in the last third with tedious discussions about the solar energy business and too frequent slow-mo scenes.
Still, I enjoyed this drama immensely. It allows itself time to develop the characters and the romance, nothing is rushed, no unnecessary misunderstandings, no breakups. All around stress-free, sweet and fluffy – and, of course, the leads are gorgeous. And if you feel you can’t stand hearing more about solar energy, there’s always fast forward. First two-thirds excellent, last third very good.
