Rom-com favorite Miles Wei plays Fu Ming Yu, VP of an airline company, who tries to convince a reluctant female pilot that he is excellent boyfriend material. Problem is Ruan Si Xian (Liu Xie Ning) is completely unimpressed by the VP’s money and status – she is a tough, ambitious, stubborn and extremely independent woman. In fact, she may be a little bit too stubborn and independent for her own good (as she realizes in ep. 23).
While Miles is typical Miles (and that’s always a good thing), Liu Xie Ning plays a more complex female character than typical in the rom-com world: While caring and loyal to her long-time friends, due to her difficult childhood Ruan Si Xian can be emotionally distant, extremely rational about relationships (aka “unromantic”), contrarian and all-around exasperating. So the VP has his work cut out for him and must jump through a lot of hoops to gain her trust.
The “enemies to lovers” romance full of fun bickering and back and forth is balanced with an inspiring dreams-come-true plot – without the need to introduce villains, love triangles and angst. Along the way, we see the challenges Ruan Si Xian faces as she transitions from a flight attendant to a pilot in this male dominated field. Fast paced with an engaging plot, compelling characters and an unusual aviation setting, the drama feels fresh and contemporary. A low stress, feel-good and fun watch.
